The Institut du Nouveau Monde (INM) and its 2008 Summer School have launched an intensive campaign to ratify the Great Declaration, a promising and innovative text that will be proclaimed on the United Nations’ International Youth Day, on August 12th, 2008, in Québec City. The objective? To collect as many signatures and commitments as possible before this official proclamation. The mostly web-based campaign is supported by massive postings across Québec with: Ça ne peut pas attendre Moi, je signe ! |

Bringing people together, the Great Declaration invites each signator to commit to concrete acts that will contribute to building a more just, open and unified world. Begun by INM in partnership with Oxfam-Québec, the Offices jeunesse internationaux du Québec (LOJIQ) and Regeneration 2008 – 4th World Youth Congress, the Great Declaration is an international project uniting the world’s youth around a declaration that defines and affirms the principles and values these young people wish to promote internationally. The first draft of the Great Declaration was crafted by a group of twenty six 15 to 30 year olds with diverse backgrounds from accross Québec and previous participants of the INM Summer School. The text has since been translated in English, Spanish, Russian, German, Innu and Romanian. |

The Great Declaration’s new bilingual website will become the platform for youth engagement. In seconds, animations show how the website works, thanks to excerpts from the Declaration and the INM Summer School. Vistors can also consult the commitments made by signators from around the world. With pictures and videos, the Web 2.0 style interactive site is inspired from movements like Facebook and MySpace. Youth-led, it is an open invitation to sign the Great Declaration at www.greatdeclaration.org. |
